Proper Storage of Your Citrus
Here are some tips for inspecting and storing your fruit to maintain its maximum freshness when it arrives:
• REMOVE the fruit from the box.
• INSPECT the fruit. Do you have questions about the fruit you have received? If there are any issues, you must contact us within 48 hours! Leave a voice message or send us an email, and we will reach out to you during the week.
• What to do if you receive bad fruit: Please contact us within 48 hours. We may ask for pictures of the bad fruit and a picture of the box – PLEASE KEEP THE BOX for any claim information.
• We will need the total # of pieces of fruit received and the # of pieces of fruit that are bad.
• We may ask for pictures, and we will discuss the options. Refund/Reship/or Other.
• STORING the fruit: 40 – 50 degrees is ideal (this is one of the most important factors). Storing the fruit this way may help the citrus last longer.
•Store the fruit in a fruit/vegetable drawer or on a shelf (in the fridge).
•Optional Storage Locations: Storing a large box of fruit in the fridge might not be feasible, so you may store the fruit in a cold place (garage, cold room, or cellar). Remember, for best results, the place should to be 40-50°F degrees and allow air flow through the fruit.
•Check the fruit every few days to use the fruit that is getting soft or starting to change.
•Storing fruit in a warmer room will cause the fruit to age much faster. It is up to you how you wish to store your fruit.
• You can freeze most citrus, but not whole fruits; they will need to be juiced, zested, cut, sliced, or cubed – frozen and stored properly.
• Delicate fruit – specialty citrus: does not last as long as oranges or grapefruit due to its delicate nature and must be stored in a cool, dry place.
We hand-pack, sort and grade all our citrus. As with all perishable products, sometimes things can happen that we cannot physically see or touch at the time of shipping which can cause the fruit to go bad during shipping. There can also be problems with the weather and/or with the way the fruit is handled during the shipping process. Once a package leaves our facility, we have NO CONTROL of how the box is handled. This is why you need to contact us within 48 hours and send pictures of the fruit and the carton it arrived in. Our Packing Peanuts are 100% biodegradable and start to break down when wet, and will dissolve in water. You can safely add them to your compost pile or store them in a dry place for reuse.
