Here at home at Pearson Ranch...
A good part of the year is dedicated to keeping all the trees on the farm in the best shape possible. Pruning is certainly one of the more important tasks to be done to orange trees. Whether you are growing your trees commercially like we do, or you have a tree or two in your own yard, it is important to maintain your tree in a healthy manner. So when pruning time comes around, it's always good to have experts like we do at Pearson Ranch. Both Javier and Daniel have been a big part of our operations here for many years and have become true experts at the "art of orange tree pruning." They know how to expertly cut out dead branches, and remove the "suckers", which are branches that basically will never do much for the tree except "suck out" the water and nutrients that the rest of the fruit bearing branches need in order to put out a good crop. They also know how far to "skirt" the tree up in order to keep the branches and the fruit off of the ground and away from snails, mud, and other potential problems. The work is hard, dusty and for most of the summer, hot here in the San Joaquin Valley.
